Mo Vaughn
Mo Vaughn and Jason Leader
The former Red Sox first baseman was a frequent visitor to the Jimmy Fund Clinic and formed a particularly close bond with an 11-year-old patient, Jason Leader.
One day before a game in 1994, Vaughn called Leader while the boy was in the hospital and promised him he'd hit a home run that evening. He did just that and a few weeks later, Leader was invited to throw out the first pitch of a Sox game. That night, Vaughn presented Leader with the baseball that he had homered into the stands in Leader's honor. The ball was donated by the fan who had caught it that night in Anaheim.
